Kari Crawford is a senior at Appalachian Bible College as a camping student and she will be a counselor and assisting in camp programming. Ryan Sebastian a senior at Liberty University will be a counselor this summer. Alec Groux will be joining us as a CIT this summer.

4 People Certified Instructors for Safe Sitter

Friday March, 28th we had 4 people go to Wake Med to be certified as Safe Sitter instructors. Look for us to have one day and two day Safe Sitter classes for kids 11 - 13 years of age in the near future.

A complete survey is being done of the camp's 30 acres. It has been many years since one has been done, and with so many activities to be started, an accurate boundary is necessary.
The roadbed on the camp property has not been cleared, therefore, we are doing selective cutting. The roadbed is needed for our Living History program.
The Living History Program, at the request of the public schools, has been expanded from Kindergarten through 5th grade. We have had two successful programs in November. John Smith, Pocahontas, and George Washington all appeared in character dress. The schools will return in the spring. Reservations have already been taken.
We have had three storage buildings donated this fall. An inventory of all the camp's "stuff" is being done and re-organized by our new utility man, George Trent.
A new pony, Biscuit, is a new addition at Camp. Carol and Wally Young from Roanoke graciously donated this gift to the camp.Biscuit stays next door with Gerald, Kimberly, and Caleb Ford so we can use the fields for camp activities, and he will visit when we need him. Thanks to Cindy Dean for her donation of horse feed for Biscuit!
We have received a donation of 100 tons of gravel along with the road and ground excavation. Thank You.
The "new" buildings have electricity, heat and air. Praise the Lord! They will soon be put into service.
A visit to the Appalachian Bible College, one of the best Christian camp programs, has given us many ideas, and we are interviewing several young people to add to our staff. Their expertise in Christian camping will help Camp Selah expand and grow.

Field Trip to West Virginia and Camp Alpine

We made a trip to Appalachian Bible College to meet Mr. Ken Pritt, the professor of camping, and the one who developed the camping curriculum. The trip was a little overwhelming, but exciting regarding the possibilities Camp Selah has in the future.
Mr. Pritt will become a consultant to Camp Selah, looking at our 30 acres, helping plan for the future, and making suggestions for our new programs. All of his programs have a strong Biblical principle and his students have work teams that build the adventure equipment.
A low ropes course and human foosball court are two early needs. the low ropes course uses telephone poles. Each pole is about $1,00. The foosball court is in a small building. We will provide the materials, and his students will complete the project as part of their college course.
As we move forward, we are praying that we can enjoy a relationship with ABC. they do certification in most adventure courses and have students who need internships for the summer as counselors.

Camp Selah Ministries Celebrates 20 Years

November 1987 was the incorporation date for the ministry to become a 501 c-3 by the Internal revenue Service. Carolyn Winstead Bagley, the founder, developed many of the programs and buildings that are now found at Camp Selah.
Mrs.Bagley was employed at the ministry from the beginning until she went on disability in 2004. She remained on the board until July 2007, when she resigned to further persue her own ministries.
Several names have been used by the ministries over the years: Cornerstone Ministries of Danville, Virginia and Selah Retreat Center, and now Camp Selah Ministries.
All these names have been under the same IRS non-profit number throughout all of the years.
No one person owns the camp, the Board of Directors is responsible to obey the laws and to run the camp for the protection and continuation of the mission of the camp as defined in the articles of incorporation.
A quote from the Christian Camp Focus series on How to be an Effective Board Member explains the duty of a board: "Remember, when all others run for cover, it is the board that must stand in the light and hold legal, fiduciary, and public ACCOUNTABILITY IN THEIR COLLECTIVE AND INDIVIDUAL HANDS."
Gifts and donations given to the ministry (this IRS number) are used to continue the purpose of the ministry. The Board is given the responsibility to budget and plan the use of these funds. All gifts and donations will be used as directed by the Board under the guidelines of the Boards accountant and tax laws.
The present Board looks forward to continuing the hard work and vision that the past Board has done in the past twenty years. The Lord has greatly blessed the Camp and we look to Him for the continuation of Camp Selah Ministries.

Living History Fair

Our freshly updated and expanded Living History Fair is now taking reservations for Spring 2008. Give your students (K-5) an opportunity to experience history in an idyllic country setting. A portion of a colonial roadbed is located on the camp property. George Washington and other colonial notables are purported to have ridden on this road.

HISTORICAL FIGURE PROVILE
We will provide for your students a presentation on George Washington; John Smith, Pocahontas & Powhatan; George Mason & Thomas Jefferson or James & Dolly Madison. Re-enactors will be dressed in period costumes.

MAP STUDY
Students will experience an age appropriate map study complete with map terms and symbols.

WAGON RIDE
Students will have the opportunity to ride on the colonial roadbed and experience the flora of the area.

FLAG ETIQUETTE
An age appropriate activity will be provided to help students learn the history of our flag and respect for this icon of American Freedom.

COLONIAL GAMES & PAST TIMES
Students will participate in games colonial children played. They will learn the Virginia Reel.

HANDS ON ACTIVITY
Teachers will be able to select one activity for the group to experience. Choices are: weaving, stitchery, seed planting, cookie baking, applesauce making, painting and candle making.

BUTTER MAKING
Students will be able to experience the wonderful taste of homemade butter. Please bring a clean plastic mayonnaise style jar with a tight fitting lid for every four students.

LUNCH ON THE GROUNDS
Camp Selah does not provide lunch. Picnic tables will be available for you to brown bag on the grounds.

SELAH SHOPPE
Students, teachers and parents will be abnle to purchase some unique items in our store.

Annual Meeting and Family Day - October 27

We will host our first Annual Meeting and Family Day for our ministry volunteers, campers and interested persons on Saturday, October 27. The day will begin with a brunch at 10:00 a.m. The general session for our business meeting at 11:00 with reports on the ministry involving our progress and our vision. Please plan to attend. Eye Clinic in October!

Dr. Donna Elcock will be coming from Philadelphia, PA in October for our first Annual meeting and Ark dedication on October 27, 2007. She will also be conducting an eye clinic at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church in Danville, VA on Sunday, October 28 and Monday, October 29, 2007. For a $30 donation to Camp Selah Ministries, the patient will receive an eye exam and glasses if needed. This clinic is intended for those without insurance or medicaid coverage. Dr. Elcock will accept appointments from 2:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. and from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Call the camp to schedule an appointment or to help someone in need schedule. Christmas is Coming!

We are busy planning for the Christmas season. Everyone has unused gifts around the house, hiding in the closet or under the bed. You know about those gifts, we all have them. Will you please send them to The Spirit of Giving program?

This year, we are offering you the opportunity to free yourself of those new and unused gifts by donating them to our "ReGift Program". Beginning now and through the month of November, we will be accepting donations of gifts, wrapping paper, gently used toys, movies, cds, etc. In December, we will have two Saturdays set aside for various groups of children from churches, civic groups, community agencies, and all around the area to come to camp and "shop" for their family members. What a great opportunity to make available for the children to learn how much fun it is to shop select and wrap for loved ones.

Camp gift certificates will also be available to wrap and give the children for Christmas. Contact us for more information on dropping off your donations and scheduling your group for a shopping event at camp.

Calling All Scouts and Service Groups

Camp Selah is growing! We are developing a Nature Center and Program offering field trip opportunities to school groups, both public and private in the great outdoors. This study in nature and wildlife is being tailored to help educators meet the Virginia Standards of Learning in Science. If you are looking for a service project for your group or as a Girl Scout Silver, Gold or Boy Scout Eagle Project, please call! 434 822-5628 We look forward to working with you. Our first program will debut next spring for grades K-3 and is entitled "Whose been sleeping in my backyard?"

Road and Parking Lot Upgrade

We are so very thankful for donors and volunteers who have worked to grade and gravel the parking lot at the Ark bunkhouse as well as the road through the camp. The area around the Ark and new classroom buildings look wonderful and grass is beginning to shoot up even in the dry weather.

The Pool is Complete

The swimming pool (20x40) is complete! The children are swimming and enjoying themselves under the careful watch of certified lifeguards and adult spotters. Our first baptism was held at the end of the third week of camp. Two children and one adult were baptised surrounded by a crowd of 77 witnesses. God continues to bless His ministry abundantly.

Two New Buildings Donated!!

Two new buildings, about 2110 square feet, have been donated to be used as a craft cabin and new meeting room near the Ark bunkhouse. Thank you.
